Badger Flats Gazette: Leon Panetta Hearings a “Sham”The Gazette's investigative work has yet to be reported by Monterey Herald/MediaNews Group and other media outlets. badgerflats.com - February 05, 2009
(PRNewsChannel)
/ Monterey, Calif. / Despite portions of
an investigative report published by the Badger
Flats Gazette, which managed to delay confirmation hearings for Leon
Panetta as director of the CIA, the Monterey Herald/MediaNews Group has
failed to report the latest developments in any of its newspapers. The
same investigative material was delivered to Senator Diane Feinstein,
head of the Senate Intelligence committee, and other senators. They,
too, ignored the writing on the wall.
"Finance
reports from Leon
Panetta show he has paid off political pundits with lecture bookings
on both sides of the aisle creating a bipartisan illusion of integrity.
Even his local paper - the Monterey Herald owned by MediaNews Group –
has been paid off," says Gene Forte, a former candidate for
governor of California and investigative reporter for the Badger
Flats Gazette, which recently published results of a seven year
investigation into Leon Panetta. "Even the no-spin advocate, Bill
O'Reilly, won't touch this story and it’s because he was paid off by
Panetta." Forte
says the real pot of gold for all of the good ‘ol boys politicos of
Leon Panetta is the old Fort Ord Base, which is home to the Panetta
Institute. The fort was closed down under the Clinton
administration but is now being redeveloped with private contractors
under the watchful eye of Leon
Panetta, according to Forte. “It’s
comparable in size to the land mass of San Francisco and considered to
be the most valuable piece of property in the world. It’s a huge
bartering chip for Leon Panetta and his political influence.
Ultimately, he’s like a pit boss,” Forte says. Because
of all the political connections and payoffs, Forte believes the big to
do about Leon Panetta’s recent financial report is nothing but a
diversion from the facts that could prevent Panetta from being
confirmed. Forte
says Leon Panetta
along with the Monterey Herald, some judges, attorneys and members of
the District Attorney’s Office refused to go after Panetta’s son’s
law firm, Fenton & Keller, after the firm allegedly fixed a real
estate case. “The
cabal just got bigger and bigger,” Forte says. Forte
says citizens should be able to hold their government officials
accountable and, despite his evidence, that doesn't appear to be
happening in this case. "What
more can an American do to bring the matter forward with Leon
Panetta? I’m saying that if President Obama or any of the
senators such as Diane Feinstein confirm Panetta without reviewing the
evidence I have, then they have done our country a grave injustice.
Their silence by agreement shows their participation in this
cover-up" says Forte. "Other countries will not trust a
nation that has a CIA Director that was permitted to hide an abuse of
public official power with the media,” he says. Forte
points out a report on MSNBC ahead of the Thursday confirmation hearings
that claimed Leon Panetta has “very little intelligence experience”
and a guest commentator from The Heritage Foundation said the
CIA-designate would be “the weak link” at the department, if
confirmed. The
staff of the Badger
Flats Gazette is committed to following Panetta’s story even if he
is confirmed later this week. Its investigative reports will continue to
provide private oversight of the government, according to Forte. “It’s
no longer about Big Brother. This time around, it’s Big Badger
watching and we won’t stop until someone else realizes what is going
on here,” concludes Forte. Contact: Glenn
